Ways to Help-Becoming a Partner in Peacemaking

We are often asked how an individual or group of individuals can assist the work of bringing peace to the lives of people in desperate situations. We make this list as a partial reply.
1. Pray, really pray for us and our people.
2. Make some sandwiches and bring them to our office. (we'll come get them).
3. Make cookies or purchase fruit for us to distribute.
4. Come and help us give out the things on the street.
5. Buy warm gloves for the winter time for our people-Kids too.
6. Mentor a child or teenager.
7. Work in our office for a couple of hours a week.
8. Drive our van to pick up donated goods.
9. Invite us to speak to a group you belong to.
10. Buy some soda or juice for us to give to the people.
11. Support a child going back to school with a set of clothes and shoes.
12. Adopt one of our kids for Christmas presents.
13. Help us get good furniture and household things for evicted families who are having to start over again.
14. Bring small packages of food for families with little.
15. Help a young mother with things needed for the baby.
16. Get blankets and quilts for the homeless.
17. Buy towels, wash clothes and linens for the needy.
18. Become informed about welfare reform as it affects real people.
19. Become a volunteer Woman to Woman Friend.
20. Tell others about us.
21. Become a Buddy for a homeless person and supply them with shoes, socks personal care items on a one to one basis.
22. Buy a child a pair of shoes.
23. Get tickets for us to Sporting Events, the Circus, Disney on Ice, etc.
24. Help a woman in recovery get a job.
25. Take a woman in recovery for a lunch, a hairdo, a movie.
26. Take a recovering family to your parish festival.
27. Pay for a spiritual retreat for a woman in recovery.
28. Teach a class to our recovering women on typing, the computer, using office equipment or something else you feel they would enjoy.
29. Teach a recovering woman to BUDGET and live within the budget.
30. Buy a basketball for an abused or neglected child.
31. Let us know if there is a gift or talent you want to use.
32. Send $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
33. Pray some more.
34. Help us pay tuition for a child to attend a better school.
35. Get us on your parish giving tree if you have one at Christmas.
36. Take one of our families to a parish prayer event. (Mass is usually too strange and long for them).
37. Invite and take a recovering woman to coffee and talk about the meaning of faith in your life. Invite her to your women's prayer group.
38. Ask the children in your school to collect soap, tooth paste, mouth wash and other personal care items for our people.
39. Ask your Confirmation candidates to take up a collection and make sandwiches for us to give out-once, twice, more than twice!
40. Donate a bed and mattress set for a family. Twin size is best.
41. We have NO SPACE for storage. But, if you have good, usable furniture that you can donate call us and if we have a family we know needs it we will take it.
42. If you have a pick-up and will drive it for us to pick up things become one of our movers and shakers!
43. If you are young and strong and can volunteer to help move let us keep your name on file and call you when needed.
44. Donate used Sport jerseys, T-Shirts etc. that are popular.
45. Have older teens come and give out the food and drink with us, visit with our young folk.
46. Pray some more!
47. Send even more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
48. Get your parish, your group, your organization to take one night a month and supply the food and drink and come to help us give it to the people.
49. 0ur kids are constantly asking for: Bikes, electronic games(with the batteries) Teddy Bears, Candy and Sweet things, Nike shoes, SODA, footballs and basketballs, anything with Michael Jordan on it.
50. Anything small children can ride safely (e.g. tricycles, plastic trucks etc.)

Come meet a poor person! You may find a friend!
