Molesters Target Children

Two-thirds of sex offenders in state prisons attacked children.
One-third of these victims were offspring or stepchildren of their attackers.
Children under age 18 bear the brunt of sex offenses.
Sixty-one percent of sexually assaulted victims are under 18 years old.
One-Half (50%) of child victims of rape or sexual assault are age 12 or younger.
Three-fourths of child victims of rape or sexual assault are females.
One-third of child molesters attack their own child or stepchild.
One-half (50%) of molesters are friends or acquaintances of the victim.
Three out of four child molesters commit their crimes either in their own home or the child's home.
Ninety-seven percent (97%) of child molesters are male.
Seventy percent (70%) of child molesters are white.
Sixty-four percent (64%) of child molesters are married or divorced.
