Franciscan Peacemakers was founded in June of 1995 by the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order for the purpose of working to lessen violence in the homes and on the streets of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On July 31, 1996 we were incorporated in the State of Wisconsin as a tax-exempt charitable organization. 501 (c) (3).

Our Mission is to women who are involved in prostitution either to support their own drug habits and/or to support their children. Ministry to the children of the women has developed as integral to her rehabilitation. A street ministry to neglected children and homeless men and women has developed from our street presence to women at risk. As of January 30, 2003 we have 14 women in treatment, several women in preparation.

We have a permanent street presence at 16th and North Avenue through our outreach van. In addition we have several less consistent places on both the North side and South Side of Milwaukee where we minister to the poor.

On a typical day we are now ministering to some 80 to 100 people, and we do this five days a week. We visit people in their homes and along the streets during the day and then each evening we bring food, clothing, or whatever we have, to our street outposts.

We have an urgent need for your financial contributions.
